Sometimes it seems that life is full of disappointments. Among them is the new Beck record.

Really? I'm enjoying it on my first few listens as sort of a hipper, modern Odelay - even though that was an album that didn't really need much tweaking. While I still feel that Sea Change is his best album, Guero is a definitive look at the style that Beck pioneered really. While that means it isn't always super-creative or breathtakingly beautiful, its a lot of fun to listen to.

I'm listening to it again now. Don't get me wrong -- it's not a BAD record, just seems like the same record as Odelay. And I liked both of his intervening records (the Prince one, and the Gordon Lightfoot one) even more than I liked Odelay. And sort of expected that maybe each record would keep being different. Maybe I set my expectations too high.

No, I see exactly what you are saying - perhaps I'm just a little shocked you haven't found yourself in an awkward situation with Beck...
